Chin Mudra

Variation of Chin Mudra – symbolically, the small, ring and middle fingers represent the three qualities of nature (gunas): tamas, rajas and sattwa. In order for consciousness to pass from ignorance (avidya) to knowledge these three states must be transcended. The index finger (jivatma) represents individual consciousness, the thumb symbolises supreme consciousness (brahman). The individual is bowing down to the supreme consciousness acknowledging its power.
